Kaum gestartet, schon gestrandet!

DE: Drei Jahre des Herumstehens sind den Motorrädern ganz offensichtlich gar nicht gut bekommen: Matthias‘ XT verliert durch ein bisher noch nicht lokalisiertes Leck Kühlwasser. 

Und an der Transalp haben sich gleich mehrere Defekte eingestellt: Durch eine undichte Zylinderkopfdeckeldichtung tritt Öl, durch den undichten Benzinhahn Benzin aus. Das Motorrad ist bereits bedeckt von einem feinen Schmierfilm und die ganze Zeit umgeben von einer Benzinwolke, ich bin schon ganz berauscht.

Das größte Problem aber ist, dass in unregelmäßigen, leider immer kürzer werdenden (und länger andauernden) Abständen nur einer der beiden Zylinder befeuert wird. Das Transalp-Forum brachte uns bei der Fehlersuche auf die richtige Spur. Durch Änderung der Steckverbindungen und dem damit einhergehenden Ausfall des Drehzahlmessers fühlen wir uns in unserem Verdacht bestätigt, dass eine der beiden CDI defekt ist. 

An Ersatz war zunächst nicht zu denken. Wie heißt es dazu im Forum: „so begehrt wie 25-jährige gutaussehende Millionärinnen. Und genau so häufig.“

Daher waren wir heute bei Bill, Eigentümer von Premium Technology, einem auf unserer Route liegenden Elektrogeschäft. Bill hat die defekte CDI aufgefräst, unter dem Mikroskop die Kontakte analysiert und neu verlötet. Und er wollte für fast drei Stunden Arbeit nicht mal einen Euro bzw. Dollar haben. Bei so viel Freundlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft fehlen mir die Worte!

Leider hat die CDI aber ganz offenbar mehr Macken als nur gebrochene Lötstellen; auf der Weiterfahrt fiel der Zylinder erneut aus. Und er blieb es leider auch.

Stinkend und mit letzter Kraft bin ich in Portland eingelaufen. An eine Weiterfahrt ist erstmal nicht zu denken. Wir hoffen nun, eine Werkstatt zu finden, die kurzfristig unsere treuen Gefährten wieder fit macht. 

Zumindest haben wir einen Versandhändler gefunden, der die passende CDI auf Vorrat zu haben scheint. Und mit UPS Next Day wäre die übermorgen vielleicht schon da. Und dann müssen wir mit unserer Fehleranalyse nur noch richtig gelegen haben.

EN: Three years of standing around obviously didn't do the bikes any good: Matthias' XT is losing coolant due to a leak that has not yet been localized.

And the Transalp has developed several defects at once: Oil is leaking through a leaking cylinder head cover gasket and petrol through the leaking petrol tap. The bike is already covered in a fine film of grease and surrounded by a cloud of petrol all the time, I am already quite intoxicated.

The biggest problem, however, is that at irregular, unfortunately increasingly shorter (and longer) intervals, only one of the two cylinders is firing. The Transalp forum put us on the right track for troubleshooting. By changing the plug connections and the resulting failure of the rev counter, we feel confirmed in our suspicion that one of the two CDIs is defective.

At first, replacement was out of the question. As it says in the forum: "as desirable as 25-year-old good-looking millionaires. And just as common."

So today we went to Bill, owner of Premium Technology, an electrical shop on our route. Bill milled out the defective CDI, analysed the contacts under the microscope and re-soldered them. And he didn't even want one euro or dollar for almost three hours of work. With so much friendliness and helpfulness, words fail me!

Unfortunately, the CDI obviously has more faults than just broken solder joints; on the onward journey, the cylinder failed again. And unfortunately it stayed that way.

The Transalp arrived in Portland stinking and with its last ounce of strength. We can't think of continuing the journey for the time being. We hope to find a workshop instead that can repair our faithful companions in the short term.

At least we found a company that seems to have the right CDI in stock. And with UPS Next Day, it might be there the day after tomorrow. And then we just have to be right with our error analysis.

Trois ans d'immobilisation n'ont manifestement pas été favorables aux motos : La XT de Matthias perd de l'eau de refroidissement à cause d'une fuite qui n'a pas encore été localisée.

Et sur la Transalp, plusieurs défauts ont fait leur apparition : De l'huile s'échappe par un joint de couvre-culasse non étanche, de l'essence par le robinet d'essence non étanche. La moto est déjà recouverte d'un fin film lubrifiant et tout le temps entourée d'un nuage d'essence, je suis déjà enivré.

Mais le plus gros problème est qu'à intervalles irréguliers, malheureusement de plus en plus courts (et de plus en plus longs), seul un des deux cylindres est alimenté. Le forum Transalp nous a mis sur la bonne voie lors de la recherche du problème. La modification des connexions et la panne du compte-tours qui en a résulté nous ont confirmé dans nos soupçons : l'un des deux CDI est défectueux.

Dans un premier temps, il n'était pas question de le remplacer. Comme le dit le forum à ce sujet : "aussi convoité que les belles millionnaires de 25 ans. Et tout aussi fréquentes".

Nous sommes donc allés aujourd'hui chez Bill, propriétaire de Premium Technology, un magasin d'électronique situé sur notre route. Bill a fraisé le CDI défectueux, analysé les contacts au microscope et les a soudés à nouveau. Et il ne voulait même pas demander un euro ou un dollar pour presque trois heures de travail. Face à tant de gentillesse et de serviabilité, les mots me manquent !

Malheureusement, le CDI a manifestement plus de défauts que de simples soudures cassées ; en poursuivant notre route, le cylindre est à nouveau tombé en panne. Et il l'est resté.

Je suis arrivé à Portland en puant et avec les dernières forces. Pour l'instant, il n'est pas question de poursuivre le voyage. Nous espérons maintenant trouver un atelier qui puisse remettre en état nos fidèles compagnons à court terme.

Nous avons au moins trouvé un vendeur par correspondance qui semble avoir le CDI adéquat en stock. Et avec UPS Next Day, il serait peut-être déjà là après-demain. Il ne nous reste plus qu'à trouver la bonne solution.
